ODESSA – World prices for wheat and corn are rising because of hot weather and a possible decrease in US production. Wheat prices in Ukraine also increased by $ 15-20 / ton, and forward prices for Ukrainian corn – by $ 10-15 / ton.
This news supports the barley market, which has dropped sharply at the beginning of the season from $ 225-230 / t to $ 190-195 / t. Thereafter, this week the purchase prices for barley in the ports of Ukraine have increased by 10- 15 $ / t up to 200-205 $. It is noteworthy that a year ago, during this period, they amounted to 165-170 $ / t.
The barley harvest forecast in Ukraine is at the level of 9-12 million tons due to the high yield in the range of 4.5 tons/ha. And the export is estimated at 5-7 million tons. According to customs data, in the 2021/22 season as of July 22, Ukraine exported 301 thousand tons of barley, corresponding to last year rates.
