First Russian Ship Loaded With Fertilizer Left Dutch Port

The United Nations (UN) reported that the first Russian ship loaded with fertilizer departed from the Dutch port after the extension of the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement.

UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the ship loaded with 20 thousand tons of Russian fertilizer allocated by the UN World Food Program departed from the Netherlands. Stating that the ship will go to Malawi via Mozambique, Spokesperson Dujarric stated that the shipment is the first in a series of fertilizer shipments to African countries.

Dujarric expressed his satisfaction that Russian fertilizer producers donated 260,000 tons of fertilizer that had been in European ports since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Reconnecting the fertilizer market is a very important step to ensure global food security in 2023,” Dujarric said, noting that this donation will partially meet humanitarian needs and prevent catastrophic crop loss in Africa.

Dujarric stated that the UN will continue to make every effort with all parties to ensure global food security in 2023.

Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), announced at a press conference on November 18 that the first Russian ship loaded with fertilizer will depart from a European port to Africa on November 21 following the renewal of the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement.
