Indian Sesame Seeds Prices may Reduce by Mid-April.
At present, Indian sesame is highest in the International markets; due to the gap between Indian and other origins of sesame seeds, Indian Hulled sesame export has reduced as there is less demand from the overseas buyers at the current levels.
The price of Natural Sesame in Nigeria ranges between $1490 to $1500 per ton. The price of natural white sesame in Burkina Faso is $1,550 per ton, but Burkina’s stock of white sesame is not available due to scarcity. The cost of Sudan’s Red Sesame per ton is around $1380 to $ 1390 per ton, and Al Gedaref’s is from $1480 to $1530 per ton. The value of the Sudanese currency pound against the dollar has increased by 15 to 20 percent in the last few days. The availability of sesame seeds in Sudan is very low due to the high logistic problems prevailing in Sudan. The port stock in China is more than 2 lakh tonnes, and the demand for sesame in China is low at present due to the lockdown in many cities and the rapid increase in the cases of Coronavirus in China. In the international markets, the price of Indian sesame is said to be around $1640 per ton FOB.
Current Situation of Russia & Europe
In particular, 15 thousand tonnes of hulled sesame is exported to Russia every year. At present, hulled sesame cannot be shipped to Russia, and there are concerns about the payments against the sesame shipments that has been already made to Russia before the war. There is uncertainty about it, and the shipments of sesame seeds to Russia are stuck at present. Apart from this, due to higher freight, European countries get cheaper sesame from Burkina, Togo, and Nigeria. Therefore the demand of European countries for sesame has been diverted to those countries.
India is not importing Natural Sesame Seeds due to the decrease in the export demand for Indian Hulled Sesame. Last year, India imported 1.25 million tonnes of white sesame, but it is estimated to be only 25 to 27 thousand tonnes in the current year.
For the traders who got the order in Korean tender, 60-70% of that export amount is already in stock, and new procurement for Korean tender is also slowing down.
Future Trend
The arrival of new summer sesame in India will start in May. New sesame from Tanzania and Mozambique will come in the market in June-July.
The price of white sesame is currently running from $ 1,60 to $ 1,61per kg. Due to the lack of demand of Indian Hulled in the international market and 60-70% stock has already been covered for the Korean tender, there is a possibility of a fall of $ 0,04 to $ 0,07 per kg in white sesame till April 15.
There is heavy pressure on black sesame; due to the sluggish demand, it is also likely to reduce by $ 0,04 to $ 0,07 per kg. The price of black sesame 99-1-1 per kg is $ 1,60 to $ 1,61.
