At the meeting held at the Commodity Exchange, Metin Öztürk, Manisa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, who made the opening speech at the conference, said, “A new season is starting. We are together with the representatives of the sector. Sultana grape is a strategic product of our country. We found it appropriate to hold this meeting when the vineyards are starting to awaken. Such meetings are beneficial to follow the right path from producer to the exporter; cooperation is important.”

At the meeting hosted by Alaşehir Commodity Exchange, it was decided to carry out studies for controlled spraying, increasing the production quality and quantity by using new technologies, improving the meteorological stations, preventing both waste and unnecessary chemical use, increasing the competition in the world markets and increasing the quality of grapes. It was decided to work commonly to increase the competitiveness of Turkish exporters and grow products according to the wishes of the consumers around the world.

Şemsi Özgür, Member of the Board of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, who attended the meeting, said, “Our seedless grape is one of our main export products. Turkey exports both its fresh and dried fruits to many countries globally. Our product is not unique in the world. There are countries in different parts of the world that we are competing with. We need to add value to our product by growing the best quality products. This includes holding meetings and evaluating how we can improve the quality of grapes before the Season starts. Buyers have demands for better quality, cleaner products. We can stand out in the competition by growing quality products. We’re trying to get through.” he said.

On the other hand, market players informed that the stable market situation continues, that there are not many new demands, that exporters mostly continue to process at a slow pace their existing orders. Raw material prices remained as before type nr. 9 is traded at 15,40-16 TL/kg levels, the transactions at the Commodity Exchange in Izmir remains as before calm, traded volumes are small. Exporters offer still at 1500-1550 Usd/mt on FOB Izmir basis for type nr.9 and at 2000-2200 Usd/mt on FOB Izmir basis for organic type nr.9.

The Turkish lira remained almost at the same level as last week and noted today the Usd/TL rate at 14,84 TL (14,82 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 16,28 TL levels (16,38 last week).

After the cold and snowfalls of the last two weeks, the weather in Turkey is starting to warm up this week.

Exports continue at a faster pace than last year. Turkey’s total exports range at 147.211 mt until 26 March 2022, which was 135,258 mt the previous year during the same period. Turkey exported 4.457 mt of sultana raisins last week, being 3428 mt during the previous season’s same week.
