After earlier price correction, Black Pepper experienced an appreciative mode from the middle of the month. As a result, the trend has been between the firm and stable spice from the last two weeks of February.

According to experts, the farmers of Karnataka have stated Black Pepper crop production will be the lowest this year in the last five years. As a result, there is minimal possibility that the price for the spice may go down.

The Market Scenario for February

As the month progressed, the market went into an appreciative mode due to the following:

  • There is low crop production by 8 to 10 percent than last year, which has made the buyers active in the market.
  • The planters and stockists are holding onto their earlier stocks expecting the price to improve.
  • The market became active due to earlier lower prices, which supported the market.
  • New crops have started arriving in the south Indian spot markets and will increase in the coming days.
  • The farmers of Kerala are selling their produce directly to the traders. As a result, the quantity of the new crop in the spot markets is less than expected.
  • The availability of the new crop is seen in the villages instead of the spot markets.
  • This has resulted in traders and stockists going straight to the farmers to buy the products instead of going to the spot markets, where the arrival of the new black peppercorns is less.
  • The arrival of the new crop has been affected by the earlier lockdowns and curfews imposed due to the COVID-19.
  • The restrictions also affected the picking and transportation of the new crop in the market. As a result, despite being harvested for two months now, the arrival is late.

Prediction

According to reports, the 2022 Black Pepper market forecast will be good. This is because of the scarcity of production while increasing demand in the international market due to its medicinal properties will support the price.

Furthermore, the freight price increase will make buyers look towards India and Brazil instead of Vietnam to fulfill the demand. The increase in fertilizer cost and rising labor costs in Vietnam will increase the pepper price in the global market.
