The arrivals of cardamom in various auctions have started decreasing recently. Because of this, its average auction price has started increasing. However, there is no significant increase in the buying by exporters. Even after this, the strength of small cardamom may remain strong in the coming days due to inward pressure and a forecast of reduction.

Due to the summer season, it is now getting hot in North India. There are reports of temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. The cases of coronavirus infection are now nominal. The offtake of small cardamom in the wholesale grocery market remains relatively sluggish.

However, the arrival of small cardamom has come down to 52,46 kg in the Idukki District. Despite the comparatively low arrival, its average auction price improved to $11,79 per kg on light buying support. Earlier in March 63,31 kg had arrived in the auction and the average auction price was $11,75 per kg.

Exporters’ activity is expected to remain strong due to weak production in Guatemala and attractive Indian cardamom prices. However, exports may be affected due to the shortage of containers and skyrocketing sea freight costs. Small cardamom seven and a half mm has remained at the level of $15,14/15,80 per kg for the past few days due to sluggish buying in the wholesale grocery market. Earlier, there was a recession of $0,65 in it.

Small cardamom in the spot is expected to remain firm in the coming days.
