This year, figs have been exported at a value of over 1,000,000 USD from Fars province. Last month, more than 2,000 tons worth 6,000,000 USD were exported from Iran.
This year, 348 tons of dried figs worth 1,044,000 USD have been exported from Fars province customs, which is 2.5 times more than the same period last year. Figs of Fars province are mainly exported to Southeast Asian countries. From March 21st,2021, to September 22nd,2021, Singapore has been the destination of Fars figs. Last year, the export of this product was 14,300 tons worth 43,000,000 USD in Iran. The main products for export belong to Fars province, which has been exported from other Iranian customs. Forty per cent of all Iranian figs are produced in Fars province. In this province, the number of fig production is over 38,000 tons, which is the first in Iran in terms of production rank. The amount of fig production in Iran is 96,000 tons, and its cultivated area is over 60,000 hectares.
In October (September 23rd,2021 to October 22nd,2021), 2,019 tons of figs worth 6,038,000 USD were exported from Iran. From September (August 23rd,2021 to September 21st,2021), Exports were 1,661 tons worth 4,808,000 USD. This amount has increased by 21.6 per cent in terms of weight and 25.6 per cent in terms of export value in October compared to September. The number of Iranian figs exports last month has not changed much compared to the previous year’s same period. In October 2020, 2,072 tons worth 6,108,000 USD were exported, which has decreased by 2.6 per cent in terms of weight and 1.1 per cent in terms of export value.
Over the past month, the prices of Iranian dried figs have risen due to increasing domestic and export demand. As the Christmas and New Year holidays are coming, the need to buy and import Iranian dried figs grew for these days, leading to a rise in the export demand of this product. Also, in about a month, it is Yalda night in Iran, and the need for nuts such as dried figs will increase for this night. This issue has led to an increase in the price of this product in the domestic and international markets. In general, compared to last month, the cost of dried figs exported from Iran has increased by 9.5 to 13.1 per cent.
