There may be an intermittent decline in the arrivals of small cardamom in auctions. But, despite that, the wholesale price of cardamom in major groceries is also not expected to rise for a while now.

The small cardamom season in the country is now at its end. As a result, the arrival of small cardamom in auctions is happening in a limited range. For example, in the Sugandhagiri Spices & Promoters & Traders Pvt Ltd auction, small cardamom’s arrival was reported to be down to 47,028 kg from 48,317 kg on June 18.

Despite the arrivals being comparatively low, due to weak buying, its average auction price was reported to have come down to $10,67 per kg compared to the June 18 price of $10,82 per kg.

According to the data released by the Spices Board, exports of small cardamom in terms of quantity jumped 68 percent to 7337 tonnes in the first nine months of the recently ended the financial year 2021-22.

The Meteorological Department has recently said that Kerala has received 60 percent less rainfall than expected in the current season. Pre-monsoon activities are happening in many North Indian states, including the capital Delhi. Even after this, the uptake of small cardamom has slowed down.

There is also a possibility of exports being affected due to the lack of containers and skyrocketing sea freight costs.

Earnings are 39 percent higher as compared to the reporting period of the previous financial year. In the coming days, there is no possibility of a long rise in small cardamom on the spot.
