Sorghum is too expensive for animal feed?

ODESSA – The sorghum price increased this year by more than 100 USD/mt compared to the previous season. Can it still be a competitive ingredient in the animal feed market?

In fact, Ukrainian sorghum, both white and red, is rarely used for human consumption. Its quality is just not as good as other origins. Previously, the biggest export demand was from producers of animal feed. But with an average price of over 300 USD/mt FCA, the demand is deficient now. Buyers prefer to substitute sorghum with cheaper products. As a result, according to some market operators, the export of white and red sorghum this year reduced by 20% minimum.

It is difficult to tell now what quantities of sorghum farmers are still keeping in their warehouses. But we can hardly expect big demand for it before the new crop will be available.
