Sunflower Oil Production in Ukraine May Exceed the Pre-war Level

The total production of oilseeds in Ukraine in season 2023/24 significantly increased compared to last season. According to Ukroliyaprom oilseeds harvest in 2023 is approximately 3.5 million tons higher than 2022.

• sunflower seeds – 1.4 million tons,
• soybeans – 1.4 million tons,
• rapeseed – 0.8 million tons.

One of the features of the current marketing year is a significant increase in domestic processing of rapeseed. As a result, we can witness an increase in the export of rapeseed oil and meal. Domestic processing of rapeseed may reach a record level of 1 million tons. In July-November of the current marketing year, more than 0.8 million tons have already been processed. Rapeseed oil production is expected to be 0.42 million tons, and exports – 0.4 million tons.

Also, it is predicted that the processing of sunflower seeds will increase to 13.5 million tons (over 90% of sunflower resources) and the production of sunflower oil will increase to 6 million tons, which will be more than 3% higher than the pre-war year.

In particular, in 2023, according to Ukroliyaprom forecasts, the production of sunflower oil in Ukraine will increase to 5.8 million tons. It will exceed its production in pre-war 2021 by 11.5% and its exports – up to 5.5-5.6 million tons (or by 10%).
