UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of Abdullah Abdul Samad Dashti from Kuwait as the United Nations Coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
Dashti replaced Amir Mahmoud Abdullah from Sudan, who had been acting as UN coordinator since August. The Secretary-General thanked Abdullah for his leadership, hard work and dedication to the Initiative during challenging times.
Dashti, who retired from the Kuwaiti Armed Forces in 2021 as a vice admiral, has 40 years of experience in naval operations, leadership and management both within Kuwait and in multinational operations. From 2019 to 2020, he was Kuwait’s military attaché for defense issues in Belgium and the representative of the Kuwaiti mission to NATO.
