Turkish agricultural producers may harvest about 2 million tons of sunflowers in 2022/23 season according to the analysts of the Sunseedman. If the estimates of experts reach the expected level, the gross yield of sunflower in the country will grow by 400 thousand tons by the level of 2021/22 MY.
The experts also expect that in the current season, Turkey will almost double its sunflower purchases abroad – from 475 thousand tons (2021/22 MY) to 750 thousand tons.
Slump in sunflower oil imports
However, in the reporting period, Sunseedman expects a slump in sunflower oil imports into the country – up to 805 thousand tons against 1 million tons in the previous season. Experts connect such dynamics with the high level of sunflower seeds production and an increase of their supply to the domestic market.
In turn, oil export from the country in the current season may increase by 34% – up to 650 thousand tons.
