Turkish dried figs exporters stated that processors are still working with full capacity to complete the outstanding orders. At the same time, the demands are still good for Turkish dried figs, but there is, unfortunately, no raw material available anymore suitable for export purposes. The province Aydin has had less rain during springtime than last season, which could affect the size and maybe even the quality of the new crop. It is currently a fruit set period, and it will be earliest around Mid-July possible to make estimations for the new crop size and its quality. Exporters also stated that the export season could start later this year due to cooler temperatures during spring. It is also stated that the lack of availability of containers for export caused delays or even redirected the buyers to truck loads. The freight costs have increased a lot since the beginning of the current season. Freight prices for 20 ft containers to European main ports vary from 50 USD up to 75 USD/mt, while they were around 30 USD/mt at the beginning of the season.
