The first batch of American soybeans with a total volume of 700 tons recently went to Uzbekistan. The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (MSR&PC), which organized the shipment, noted the significance of the “historic” deal and the investment in market research prior to closing.

Since 2020, representatives of the association have been studying the needs of the Uzbek market for legumes. The American side was “pleasantly surprised” to learn about the modern poultry farms and dairy farms of the republic and that the potential of the market is practically not used.

“American soybeans, which are supplied to Uzbekistan, will not displace anyone,” said Kim Neill, director of the Market Development Council.

American farmers are counting on an increase in demand from Uzbekistan after the delivery of the first batch of soybeans. In the absence of competitors, their product may present a “unique opportunity” for local importers.

“This supply has a chance to create a significant market for soybean producers from Minnesota,” said Patrick O’Leary, one of the directors of the association.

According to the expert, despite the difficulties with logistics due to the remoteness of Uzbekistan from the oceans, preparatory investments helped “make history.” To consolidate relations, members of the association are planning to visit the republic with a trade mission in the near future.
