Barberry; Reduction in the Export of Iranian Barberry in February

In February 2022, Iranian barberry exports decreased by about 25 percent compared to the previous month (January 2022). It has also declined by about 7 percent compared to February 2021. Iranian barberry was shipped to eleven countries in February this year. This month, most exported Iranian barberry was shipped to the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Kuwait. The export rate of this crop was 35.592 kilograms in February, which has dropped by about 25 percent compared to last month. In January this year, 47.675 kg of barberry were exported from Iran. Declining foreign exchange rates and increasing barberry prices in global markets are the most important reasons for reducing exports in February compared to last month, which has decreased the export demand. The price of foreign currencies has declined in the Iranian market due to the hopes for positive results of negotiations between Iran and the other members of JCPOA and the removal of Iran’s sanctions, especially financial and banking sanctions. Iran and the members of JCPOA have been negotiating to return Iran and the United States to this agreement.

Also, the export rate has dropped in February this year compared to the same period last year. 38.152 kilograms of barberry were exported from Iran in February 2021. The export rate has decreased by about 7 percent in February 2022 compared to the same time last year. Reducing the amount of barberry production due to the summer drought caused a reduction in the export rate and supply of this product in February this year compared to last year.

Iranian barberry has shipped to eleven countries in the world in February. The most important export destinations have been the United Arab Emirates with 13.200 kilograms, Turkey with 9.500 kg, Kuwait with 4.764 kg, and Lebanon with 3.000 kilograms in February. Other export destinations of Iranian barberry were Iraq, Sweden, Australia, Germany, Qatar, Azerbaijan, and Greece this month.

In the past month, the price of Iranian barberry for export remained stable in the domestic market of Iran. The cost of this product has increased in global markets due to the decline in foreign exchange rates against Rial. Compared to last month, the price of Iranian barberry has risen by 4 to 4,3 percent.
