BUDAPEST – Hungarian poppy seed harvest will start in the next week. The yield expectations are a bit less than in the past year, with around 1000 kg/ha.
The current blue poppy seed price is 2,30 EUR/kg FCA Hungary for seeds with morphine content below 10 mg/kg, but it can suddenly jump higher, providing further negative news.
In the meantime, unofficial news has arrived from the Czech poppy market. The strange silence in the past weeks concerning information has projected the possible problems. More and more news is coming about a big loss on the Czech poppy fields. There are rumors about significant damage due to the cold spring and the extreme tornado event from the past week.
So far, it didn’t influence the price, which is still around 2,00 Euro/kg FCA Czech Republic.
