The export of Iranian cumin has decreased by more than 85 per cent in the first 11 months of this year compared to the same period of last year. This spring, frost reduced production and the quality of cumin. This issue caused a reduction in demand, exports, and prices of Iranian cumin.
Since the beginning of this year, 1.442 tons of cumin worth 2.874.000 USD have been exported from Iran. The number of cumin exports from Iran has decreased significantly in the first 11 months of 2021 compared to the same period last year (the first 11 months of 2020). 9.518 tons of different cumin types worth 25,805,000 USD have been exported from Iran from January to November. This statistic shows that the export of cumin has decreased by about 85 per cent in terms of weight and by about 89 per cent in terms of export value in the first 11 months of 2021 compared to the same period of last year. The most important reason for the decrease in exports during this period is the decline in production of this crop compared to the previous year. The spring weather fluctuations and frost at the beginning of this year are the most important reasons for the reduction in cumin production in Iran.
Frost caused a sharp decline in the quality of cumin produced in Iran at the beginning of this year, which reduced the demand for buying the products from Iran. This year, many customers of Iranian cumin had their required product from rival countries such as India due to the decrease in the quality of Iranian cumin. This decrease in quality reduced the price of this crop for export. The average price per kilogram of Iranian cumin for export has decreased by 26 percent in the first 11 months of this year. The price of this product has reduced from 2.7 USD per kilogram to 2 USD per kilogram compared to the first 11 months of 2020.
During the past month, the prices of various types of cumin produced in Iran have remained unchanged. Several factors have caused the prices of Iranian cumin to remain stable over the past month, including the stagnation of the domestic and export markets due to declining productionands reducing demand for this product.
