The export of Iranian green cumin has dropped by more than 75 percent in the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year. Iran’s most important customers of green cumin have been Japan and the United Arab Emirates in the mentioned months.
According to Iran customs statistics, the export of Iranian green cumin was 116,950 kilograms worth 249,000 USD in January and February 2022. The average price of this crop has been 2.13 USD per kilogram in the mentioned time.
The export rate of various types of green cumin has dropped very much in January and February 2022 compared to the same period last year. During January and February 2021, 524,820 kilograms of green cumin worth 1,056,000 USD were exported. The export rate has decreased by about 78 percent in terms of weight and by about 76 percent in terms of export value in the first two months of this year compared to last year’s same time.
The most important reason for reducing the number of cumin exports is a sharp decline in the production of this crop. The production of all types of green cumin was reduced this year due to summer drought and spring weather stress. This issue decreased the number of available products and the export rate in January and February 2022.
Most Iranian green cumin was exported to Japan and the United Arab Emirates in January and February 2022. During these two months, 64,800 kilograms of green cumin worth 130,000 USD were exported to Japan, which is more than 55 percent of total cumin exports in these two months. During this time, 43,200 kg worth 86,000 USD were exported to the United Arab Emirates.
During the past month, the price of various types of green cumin for export has remained unchanged in global markets.
