Palm Oil Prices Surge in Malaysia, India Shifts Preference to Soybean and Sunflower Oil

EU Reduces Vegetable Oil Imports This Season

In the period from July 1 to March 19, the EU countries imported almost 4.6 million tons of vegetable oil to the territory of the bloc – this is about 1.5 million tons lower than in the same period last season, follows from the updated data of specialists of the European Commission.

For more than 8.5 months, the EU bought over 2.64 million tons of palm oil against 3.73 million tons a year earlier. Most of the “palm” in the reporting period was imported from Indonesia – 1.08 million tons (41% of the total number of purchases). In the second position is now Malaysia with an indicator of 550.9 thousand tons (share – 20.8%). Guatemala closes the top three – 431.6 thousand tons (16.3%).

As for sunflower oil, Ukraine remains the leading supplier here (1.13 million tons) with a share of 89.6%. Insignificant volumes were also purchased from Serbia and Moldova.

Imports of soybean oil to the European Union in the reporting period decreased from year to year – to 355.6 thousand tons (-47.5 thousand tons). The main volumes since July were imported from Ukraine and Argentina – 169.3 thousand tons (share – 47.6%) and 78.6 thousand tons (22.1%), respectively.

Purchases of rapeseed oil were the weakest – during 8.5 months only 321.1 thousand tons of the product were purchased against 451 thousand tons a year before. Imports were carried out primarily from Belarus and the UK – 146.64 thousand tons (the share – 45.7%) and 59.63 thousand tons, respectively.
