South Indian states like Kerala and Karnataka have received good rainfall during the last few days. Due to this, other commodities, including Ginger, have been affected there. The severe floods in many districts of Assam are supporting the market for Ginger in the coming days.

Current Scenario

The Meteorological Department had earlier said that the monsoon might reach Kerala on May 27. But the department has now revised the arrival of monsoon in the state. It is now expected to be by the end of May.

Despite the rain, though, not many products have been affected now. However, if the monsoon reaches Kerala according to the estimates of the Meteorological Department, then there is a possibility of affecting the supply of dry Ginger.

On the other hand, the temperature in North India has increased once again to touch the level of 45-46 degrees Celsius. It has resulted in slowness in market activity.

About four months ago, the arrival of new dry Ginger was started in Kochi, Kerala. But, even in May, the arrival of this significant grocery store has not been regularized in other major mandis of the state, including Kochi.

In Delhi’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Azadpur, the price of Ginger has increased. Ginger is coming here only from Bangalore. The cost of Ginger has recently increased by $0,03 – $0,06 per kg and currently remains at $0,45 – $0,53 per kg in local spot markets.

Dry Ginger’s price was around $1,80 – $1,93 per kg in the Sagar line. Due to the millers’ tendency to buy from Aurangabad, there is an atmosphere of lethargy in other states.

The negligible arrival of dry Ginger in Koni kept the price at $2,19 – $2,32 per kg for the past few days. Although the price is comparatively low, it remains attractive for the dry ginger grinders of Aurangabad.

Prediction

Despite the attractive price of Ginger in the country, farmers have been taking comparatively less interest in making dry Ginger for the last several years. Therefore, the forecast for the upcoming monsoon season may affect the market sentiments. However, there is no fear of recession in the coming days.
