Pistachio: Iran’s pistachio exports have increased in the past year.

Iran’s pistachio exports in this business year (2020-2021) have increased by more than 46 per cent compared to the previous business year (2019-2020). The most important export destinations of Iranian pistachios were China, India, Germany, Turkey, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the customs statistics of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the total volume of Iranian pistachio exports was 205,733 tons in the 2020-2021 business year (September 22^nd,2020 to September 22^nd,2021). This amount has increased by 46.8 per cent compared to the same period last year, which was 140,186 tons. The most important reason for the increase in pistachio exports in the 2020-2021 business year compared to the previous year is the higher quality of the product available in this business year. Another reason for the rise in exports of this product has been the increase in the average price of foreign currencies this year compared to last year.

In the first eight months of the current business year, 157,898 tons of open-shell pistachios (76.7 per cent of the total exported pistachios) and 24,375 tons of closed-shell pistachios (11.8 per cent of the natural exported pistachios) have been shipped from Iran. Also, there have been 20,283 tons of kernels (9.9 per cent of the exported pistachios), 1,595 tons of green seeds, and 1,585 tons of other types of this crop for export from Iran. At the end of the 2020-2021 business year, the remaining crop was about 5,000 tons left in storage.

In the 2020-2021 business year, China was the most important export destination of Iranian pistachios. It has imported 81,967 tons of this crop from Iran, which had a share of 39.8 per cent of Iran’s pistachio exports. In the last 12 months, India has been the most important Iranian pistachio export destination after China, with 21,821 tons (10.6 per cent of total pistachio exports the previous year). Germany is next with importing 12,377 tons. Iraq with 11,918 tons, Turkey with 11,242 tons, Russia with 10,020 tons, and the United Arab Emirates imported 9,883 tons are the following places.

Over the past month, the price of this product has decreased despite the increase in export demand for Iranian pistachios and pistachio kernels. This price reduction is due to the new year’s development into the market and the increase in supply. Compared to last month, the price of Akbari pistachios for export has decreased by 2.4 to 2.9 per cent, the cost of AhmadAghaei has declined by 1.2 to 2 per cent, the price KalleGhuchi has reduced by 3 to 3.4 per cent, the price of Fandoghi pistachios has decreased by 2 to 2.4 per cent, the cost of Iranian green pistachio kernels has fallen off by 3.8 to 4.1 per cent, the price of Iranian pistachio kernels has reduced by 2.6 per cent, and the cost of closed-shell pistachios for export has declined by about 1 to 1.4 per cent.
