In January 2022, more than 118.000 USD of walnuts were exported from Iran. Last month, the number of walnut kernels for export decreased more than 68 percent compared to the same period last year. Iraq was the most significant destination for Iranian walnut kernels past month.

According to Iranian customs statistics, the export of various walnut kernels was 11.940 kg worth 118.650 USD in Iran in January 2022. About 88 percent in terms of weight and 95 percent in terms of export value of Iranian walnut and walnut kernels belongs to walnut kernels exports.

The export rate of Iranian walnut kernels has decreased by about 68 percent in January 2022 compared to the same period last year. In January 2021, 37.700 kilograms of walnut kernels worth 376.962 USD were exported from Iran. The weather stresses in the first days of spring, and the summer drought caused the available product to reduce in the new business year, which led to a rise in prices and a demand reduction. The export demand for walnut kernels and the export rate of this crop has dropped in this month due to the Omicron variant spreading in January this year in many destination countries for Iranian walnut kernels. Reducing the quality of available walnut kernels has decreased the demand and the price of each kilogram of Iranian walnut kernels for export in January this year. The price of Iranian walnut kernels has been reduced by about 0,6 percent per kilogram compared to last year. It reached 9,94 USD from 10 USD per kilogram. A large part of Iranian walnut kernels was exported to Iraq in January 2022. This month, 95 percent of the mentioned crop were exported to Iraq, which was 11.035 kg worth 113.000 USD.

Over the past month, the price of various types of Iranian walnuts and walnut kernels for export remained stable in the domestic market of Iran. The price of this product has slightly increased in the world markets due to the reduction in the rate of Rial against foreign currencies last week. Due to hope for resulting talks between Iran and other members of JCPOA to return Iran and the United States to this agreement and remove Iran’s sanctions, foreign currencies in the Iranian market dropped. The removal of US sanctions helps the countries in the world facilitate trade with Iran. Compared to the last month, the price of Iranian walnuts and walnut kernels for export has increased by about 1 percent.
