Almond harvesting started in Saman city. It is expected that more than 10,000 tons of almonds will be harvested this year, which has decreased compared to last year due to the frostbite at the beginning of spring this year. The export of Iranian almonds dropped by about 50 percent in July 2022 compared to July last year.

Almond harvesting started from 10,000 hectares of orchards in Saman city in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province. It starts from the beginning of August and continues until the end of September. On average, 1.5 to 2 tons of almonds are harvested from each hectare of irrigated garden. However, the production has decreased compared to previous years due to frost in the early spring. It reached one ton per hectare. It is expected that this year’s harvest will be at least 10,000 tons. Saman city ranks first in the production of irrigated almonds in Iran due to having an almond research center. This issue has caused the construction of the first specialized town to begin in this city and will be put into operation next year.

According to the Iran customs statistics, 204 tons of Iranian almonds worth 1,617,000 USD (7.93 USD per kilogram) were exported in July this year. The export of Iranian almonds was 145 tons worth 1,224,000 USD (8.46 USD per kilogram) in June 2022. The export rate of this crop has risen by more than 40 percent in terms of weight and by more than 32 percent in terms of the Dollar rate in July this year compared to the previous month due to the increase in export demand. However, the number of exports has fallen by about 49 percent in terms of weight and by 50 percent in terms of the Dollar rate in July this year compared to July 2021. The export rate was 402 tons worth 3,259,000 USD (8.10 USD per kilogram) in July 2021. The most important reason for the decrease in the number of exports during this period is the drop in the market inventory compared to last year.

The export of Iranian almonds was 1,223 tons worth 8,929,000 USD in the first seven months of this year. The average price of Iranian almonds for export has been 7.30 USD per kilogram during the mentioned months. Of this amount, 78.5 percent in terms of weight and 94 percent in terms of export value (960 tons worth 8,404,000 USD) is related to the export of almond kernels. Also, 21.5 percent in terms of weight and 6 percent of the export value (263 tons worth 525,000 USD) belong to the export of shelled almonds.

The export rate of Iranian almonds has declined by 46 percent in terms of weight and by 55 percent in terms of Dollar rate in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year. 2,278 tons of almonds worth 19,740,000 USD were exported from Iran in the first seven months of 2021. The most important reason for the decrease in the export rate in the first seven months of this year is the reduction in the market inventory in this period compared to last year, which was caused by the decrease in production.

Compared to last month, the cost of Iranian almonds for export has grown in international markets. The decrease in the market inventory and the foreign exchange rate against the Rial compared to last month are the two main factors in the increase of 6.2 to 8.7 percent in the price of Iranian almonds for export in global markets.
