In January 2022, the export rate of Iranian cumin has dropped more than 80 per cent compared to the same period in 2021. The most important reason for reducing the number of export of this crop is reducing the quality of available products caused by spring weather stresses.
According to Iran’s customs, the export of various types of cumin in Iran was 70 tons worth 147.000 USD in the first month of the new year (January 2022). The average price of Iran’s exported cumin was 1,2 USD per kilogram in January this year.
The export rate in January 2022 has dropped sharply compared to the same period last year. In January 2021, 371 tons of Iranian cumin worth 743.000 USD were exported from Iran. The export rate in January 2022 has fallen by more than 80 per cent in terms of weight and export value compared to January 2021.
The most important reason for the reduction in the amount of exported various types of Iranian cumin in January 2022 is reducing the amount of cumin, as well as decreasing the quality of available crops compared to last year. Quality reduction and production rate occurred due to early spring frost. This issue resulted in losing a large amount of cumin and reducing the quality of this product. The quality reduction caused many customers to refuse to buy this crop, and they provided their products from other countries.
In the past month, the price of Iran’s exported cumin has dropped. Reducing the demand for this product in global markets has been the most important reason for reducing the price of Iran’s cumin. Compared to last month, the price of Iran’s Green cumin for export has decreased by about 5 per cent, and the price of Iran’s Black cumin for export has declined by about 3,5 per cent.
