Spread the news!

The export of Iranian saffron has declined by more than 46 percent in terms of weight in the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year. However, it has risen by about 2 percent in terms of export value due to an increase of about 88 percent in the price of saffron.

According to Iran customs statistics, 63,458 kg of saffron worth 58,771,000 USD was exported from Iran from January to the end of April 2022. The average price of Iranian saffron for export has been 926 USD per kilogram during this period.

The export of Iranian saffron has reduced sharply in terms of weight in the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year, but it has risen in terms of export value. 117,531 kg of saffron worth 57,654,000 USD were exported from January to April 2021. The export of saffron has declined by 46 percent in the first four months of this year compared to last year. However, it has been almost stable and increased by about 2 percent in terms of export value.

The reason for the increase in saffron export revenue during this period compared to last year is the sharp rise in the price of saffron in the Iranian domestic market in the final months of 2021, despite the sharp decrease in saffron for export in terms of weight. The cost of saffron has risen by more than doubled in the domestic market of Iran. This issue has led to an increase in the exported Iranian saffron price in the world markets, and the income of the crop export, despite the decrease in the exports in terms of weight in the first four months this year compared to the same period last year. The average price per kilogram of Iranian saffron for export has increased by more than 88 percent in the first four months of this year compared to the previous year. It has reached 926 USD per kilogram from 491 USD per kg.

The decline in the export of Iranian saffron in terms of weight during this period has been due to a decrease in production and an increase in saffron smuggling. The Iranian saffron smuggling has increased due to increased export costs over the past months. This issue has reduced the export of Iranian saffron in the first four months of this year.

Compared to last month, the price of Iranian saffron has fallen in the world market due to the stability of the cost of saffron in Iran’s domestic market and the increase in the foreign exchange rate against the Rial. Over the past month, the price of Iranian saffron has declined by about 2.2 to 3.2 percent in world markets.
